Noble Mind Study Tool — User Guide

Version 3.0 — February 2026

Welcome to the Noble Mind Study Tool, a free Bible study application that runs entirely in your browser. Create lessons, import from PDF, look up Scripture, study original Greek and Hebrew words, explore biblical maps, and organize everything into personal vaults — all without an account or internet connection (for most features).

"Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so."

Acts 17:11 (NASB)

1. Getting Started

Opening the Tool

Visit noblemind.study and click Open the Study Tool. The app loads entirely in your browser — no account, no login, no server required.

You can also install it as an app on your device for a full-screen experience. On the landing page, click the Install App button (or use your browser's "Add to Home Screen" or "Install" option). Once installed, the app works offline.

Interface Overview

The main screen is organized from top to bottom:

  • Top Bar — Text size controls (A− / A+), Dyslexia Font toggle, and theme toggle (Light / Dark).
  • Header Box — Lesson metadata fields (title, scripture reference, subtitle, series), the Bible Lookup button, and the Maps button.
  • Vault & Lesson Picker — Select your vault, choose a series filter, and pick a lesson from the dropdown. Includes a mode toggle (Student / Teacher).
  • Progress Bar — Shows how many questions you've answered.
  • Controls Bar — Buttons for all major actions: New Lesson, Import PDF, Scan/OCR, Save, Open, Print, Export, Search, Scripture Index, Resources, Backup, Delete, and Clear.
  • Question Area — The lesson content with questions and answer fields.

Tip: Panels like Search, Scripture Index, Resources, Backup, Import PDF, and Scan/OCR are toggles — click the button once to open the panel, and click the same button again to close it.

Theme & Accessibility

Theme Toggle: Use the switch in the top bar to swap between Dark and Light mode. Dark mode is the default.

Text Size: Click A− to decrease or A+ to increase the font size (range: 12px to 24px). Your preference is saved automatically.

Dyslexia Font: Click the Dyslexia Font button to switch all text to OpenDyslexic, a typeface designed for readers with dyslexia. Click again to switch back. This setting is saved across sessions.

2. Vaults New

What Are Vaults?

Vaults let multiple people share the same browser without mixing up their lessons. For example, a husband and wife can each have their own vault, or a class can set up individual vaults for each student — all on the same device.

Every installation starts with a Shared vault. This is the default workspace and cannot be renamed or deleted.

Managing Vaults

The vault controls appear in the lesson picker area, labeled "Vault:" with a dropdown and three buttons:

  • Switching vaults: Select a vault from the dropdown. The lesson list updates instantly to show that vault's lessons.
  • Creating a vault: Click the + button. Enter a name (e.g., "Pam", "Youth Group"). The app switches to the new vault immediately.
  • Renaming a vault: Click the (pencil) button. Enter a new name and your lessons are migrated automatically.
  • Deleting a vault: Click the 🗑 (trash) button. You'll be asked to confirm. All lessons in that vault are permanently removed, and the app switches back to the Shared vault.

Note: The Shared vault cannot be renamed or deleted. Its rename and delete buttons are disabled.

3. Creating Lessons

Method 1: New Lesson

Click ➕ New Lesson to create a lesson from scratch. You'll be guided through three prompts:

  1. Title — Enter a lesson title (e.g., "Lesson 7 — 1 Samuel 14").
  2. Series — Optionally enter a series name to group related lessons (e.g., "1 Samuel Study").
  3. Questions — Paste or type your lesson questions, one per line. Numbered questions (1. 2. 3.), lettered sub-questions (a. b. c.), lines ending with a question mark, and lines starting with directive verbs (Describe, Explain, List, etc.) are detected as answerable questions. Lines in ALL CAPS or short lines without punctuation are treated as section headers.

Once submitted, the lesson is saved and loads immediately. You can then fill in the scripture reference, subtitle, and series fields in the header.

Method 2: PDF Import

Click 📄 Import PDF to open the import panel. This workflow extracts multiple lessons from a single PDF file.

  1. Click Choose File and select a PDF.
  2. Optionally enter a Series/Folder name to organize the imported lessons.
  3. Click 🔍 Scan PDF for Lessons. The tool scans the PDF for lesson patterns (e.g., "Lesson 1", "Lesson 2").
  4. A preview appears listing each detected lesson with its title and question count. Each title field is editable — click on a title to rename it before importing.
  5. Use the checkboxes to select or deselect individual lessons. Use Select All / Deselect All for bulk changes.
  6. Click ✅ Import Selected Lessons.
  7. The selected lessons are created in your current vault. Each one auto-detects questions versus section headers.

Tip: PDFs with selectable text import fastest. Image-only PDFs will fall back to OCR scanning, which takes longer. After import, review each lesson to verify questions were detected correctly.

Method 3: OCR / Scan

Click 📷 Scan / OCR to extract text from a scanned image or image-based PDF.

  1. Choose an image file (JPG, PNG, BMP, WebP) or a PDF.
  2. The "Enhance image" checkbox is on by default — it sharpens and adjusts contrast for better recognition. Optionally check "Show preview" to see the processed image.
  3. Click 🔍 Run OCR. The status bar shows progress as pages are scanned.
  4. When complete, the extracted text appears in an editable textarea. Review it for OCR errors.
  5. The tool runs a Reference QA check, flagging suspect scripture references (e.g., a period instead of a colon in "John 3.16"). Click ✨ Apply suggested fixes to auto-correct these.
  6. Edit the text as needed — remove headers, footers, page numbers, or fix misread words.
  7. Enter a title (required), and optionally a series, scripture reference, and subtitle.
  8. Click ✅ Create Lesson from Text. The lesson is saved and loaded.

4. Working with Lessons

Loading a Lesson

Use the Series dropdown to filter by a specific series (or choose "All Series" to see everything). Then select a lesson from the Lesson dropdown. Lessons within a series are sorted numerically — "Lesson 7" appears before "Lesson 12".

Editing Metadata

The header area shows editable fields for:

  • Scripture — The passage this lesson covers (e.g., "Acts 2:1-47").
  • Subtitle — An optional subtitle or description.
  • Series — The series/folder this lesson belongs to.

All changes auto-save as you type. There is no manual save button — your work is always preserved.

Answering Questions

Each question has a text area below it for your answer. Type your response and it is saved automatically. A word count appears beneath each answer field, updating as you type.

Question Types

  • Numbered questions (1. 2. 3.) — shown with a blue circle and number.
  • Lettered sub-questions (a. b. c.) — shown with a smaller cyan circle and letter.
  • Section headers — displayed in italic as dividers, with no answer field.

Progress Bar

When a lesson is loaded, a progress bar appears showing how many answerable questions you've completed. For example: "8 of 15 answered (53%)". The bar updates in real time as you type.

Student vs. Teacher Mode

The Mode dropdown in the lesson picker area offers two options:

  • 📖 Student (default) — Shows only the student answer fields.
  • 📝 Teacher — Shows student answer fields plus a separate "Answer Key" field below each question. Teachers can type suggested or correct answers here. These are stored separately and hidden from students.

The 🔑 Print Key button prints the lesson with answer keys included.

5. Save Lesson & Open Lesson New

Save Lesson

Click 💾 Save Lesson to export the currently loaded lesson as a single .json file. This file contains the lesson title, scripture, subtitle, series, all questions, student answers, and teacher answers.

Use this for:

  • Backing up an important individual lesson
  • Sharing a lesson with another person (via email, flash drive, etc.)
  • Transferring a lesson to another device

Open Lesson

Click 📂 Open Lesson to import a single-lesson .json file into your current vault.

  1. Click 📂 Open Lesson and select a .json file.
  2. The app reads the file and shows a confirmation with the lesson title.
  3. If a lesson with the same name already exists in your vault, you'll be asked whether to overwrite it.
  4. The lesson is imported and loaded.

Note: Save/Open Lesson works with individual lessons. For backing up all lessons at once, use Backup & Restore (see Section 13).

6. Bible Lookup

Looking Up Scripture

Click 📖 Bible Lookup in the header area to open the lookup popup. You can also enter a reference in the Scripture field and click the button.

  1. Type a scripture reference in the input field (e.g., "John 3:16", "Matt 11-12", "Genesis 1:1-2:3").
  2. Choose a translation from the dropdown.
  3. Click Lookup or press Enter.
  4. The passage text appears in the popup with verse numbers in superscript.

The popup is draggable — click and drag the header bar to reposition it.

Available Translations

  • KJV + Strong's — King James Version with clickable Strong's numbers (offline, see below)
  • NASB — New American Standard Bible (default)
  • NIV — New International Version
  • ESV — English Standard Version
  • KJV — King James Version (online)
  • ASV — American Standard Version
  • NLT — New Living Translation

Note: All translations except KJV + Strong's require an internet connection, fetched from the Bolls.Life API. The KJV + Strong's option uses a local data file and works fully offline.

KJV with Strong's Numbers New

Select "KJV + Strong's" from the translation dropdown to load the King James Version with embedded Strong's Concordance numbers. Each significant word in the text is tagged with its Greek (G####) or Hebrew (H####) number.

Click any Strong's number to open a Word Study popup showing the original language word, its transliteration, pronunciation, and definition. See Section 7 for details.

This feature uses the local KJV.json file (12.4 MB) and works completely offline.

7. Strong's Dictionary / Word Study New

How It Works

When viewing a passage in KJV + Strong's mode, each word is tagged with a Strong's number. Click any number (e.g., G3056 or H1697) to open the Word Study popup.

What You'll See

  • Original word — The Greek or Hebrew word as it appears in the original text.
  • Transliteration — The word spelled out in English letters.
  • Pronunciation — How to say the word.
  • Language — Greek (G####) or Hebrew (H####).
  • Short definition — A concise one-line meaning.
  • Full definition — The complete dictionary entry with usage details.

Cross-References

Definitions often reference other Strong's numbers. These appear as clickable links (e.g., G1234 or H5678). Click them to jump to that entry without closing the popup. This lets you trace word relationships and study how terms connect across Scripture.

8. Bible Maps New

Opening the Map

Click 🗺 Maps in the header area to open the interactive Bible map in a full-screen modal.

The map features 1,309 biblical locations from the OpenBible.info dataset, displayed on a terrain map powered by Leaflet.js.

Searching Locations

Type a location name in the "Search any location..." box. A dropdown appears with matching results as you type. Click a result to pan and zoom the map to that location.

Themed Journeys

Use the Theme dropdown to overlay a journey route on the map. Available themes include:

  • Paul's Journeys — 1st Missionary Journey, 2nd Missionary Journey, 3rd Missionary Journey, Journey to Rome
  • Old Testament Journeys — Journey of Abraham, Journey of Jacob, Journey of Joseph

Each theme draws a route with numbered markers, location labels, and colored path lines. The map automatically pans and zooms to fit the journey. Select "Search Only" to clear the route and return to a clean map.

How to Search

Click 🔍 Search in the controls bar to open the search panel.

  1. Type a keyword, topic, or scripture reference in the search field.
  2. Press Enter or click Search.
  3. Results appear showing every match across all lessons in your current vault.
  4. Click any result to load that lesson.

What Gets Searched

The search checks all of the following fields in every lesson:

  • Lesson title
  • Series name
  • Scripture reference
  • Subtitle
  • All questions
  • Student answers
  • Teacher answers (answer keys)

Matching text is highlighted in the results so you can see the context of each match.

10. Scripture Index

Generating an Index

Click 📑 Scripture Index in the controls bar to open the index panel. Then choose:

  • Current Lesson — Indexes only the loaded lesson.
  • All Lessons — Indexes every lesson in your current vault.

The tool scans questions, student answers, and teacher answers for scripture references (e.g., "John 3:16", "Acts 2:38-41") and lists them all.

Using the Index

Each entry shows the reference, the lesson it came from, and where it appeared (e.g., "Question 3" or "Answer 7"). Click any reference to open the Bible Lookup popup for that verse.

Click 📥 Export Index to download the index as a .txt file.

11. Resources Panel

Browsing Resources

Click 📚 Resources in the controls bar to open the resources panel. Resources are organized by congregation/source (shown as tabs) and category within each tab.

The default resources include materials from Churches of Christ congregations, including study guides, Bible book workbooks, topical studies, and the StraitWay curriculum. Each resource is a clickable link that opens in a new tab. Small badges indicate the file type (PDF, Website, Enhanced, DOCX).

Customizing Resources

Click ✎ Edit Resources to enter edit mode, where you can:

  • Add new congregations (tabs)
  • Add categories and resources to any tab
  • Delete custom tabs (click the X on the tab)

Click ↩ Reset to Default to restore the original resource list.

12. Printing & Exporting

Print Lesson

Click 🖨 Print Lesson to print a clean, formatted copy of the current lesson. The printout includes the lesson title, scripture reference, subtitle, blank lines for student name and date, and all questions with space for handwritten answers. This is ideal for classroom handouts.

Print Answer Key

Click 🔑 Print Key to print the lesson with teacher answer keys included below each question. The header is labeled "Answer Key" to distinguish it from student copies.

Export PDF

Click 📄 Export PDF to download a PDF file of the current lesson with your student answers. The file is named [Lesson Title]_Answers.pdf.

Export Text

Click 📝 Export Text to download a plain text (.txt) file with all questions and your answers. The file is named [Lesson Title]_Answers.txt.

13. Backup & Restore

Why Backup Matters

All your lessons are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data can be lost if you clear your browser data, switch browsers, or reinstall your operating system. Regular backups protect your work.

Export All Lessons (Backup)

Click 💾 Backup in the controls bar to open the backup panel, then click 📥 Download Backup.

This creates a single JSON file containing every lesson in your current vault — all titles, scripture references, questions, student answers, and teacher answers. The file is named Bible_Study_Backup_[date].json.

Import Lessons (Restore)

In the backup panel, select a backup .json file and click 📤 Import Backup.

  1. Select your backup file.
  2. Click Import Backup.
  3. A confirmation shows how many lessons will be imported.
  4. Lessons with the same title are overwritten; new lessons are added.
  5. Your lesson list refreshes with all imported content.

Save/Open vs. Backup: Save/Open Lesson works with a single lesson file. Backup & Restore works with all lessons in your vault at once. Use Save Lesson to share individual lessons; use Backup to protect your entire collection.

14. Managing Lessons

Clear Answers

Click Clear to erase all student answers from the current lesson while keeping the questions, metadata, and teacher answer keys intact. This is useful when you want to redo a lesson from scratch or prepare it for a new student.

Delete Lesson

Click 🗑 Delete to permanently remove the current lesson from your vault. You'll see a confirmation prompt with the lesson title. This action cannot be undone — back up important lessons first.

15. AI Study Guide New

What It Is

The AI Study Guide is a downloadable PDF of guiding principles for AI-assisted Bible study. It is designed to be uploaded to any AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) as a system instruction, so the AI approaches Scripture honestly — free from denominational bias — and lets Scripture interpret Scripture.

How to Use It

  1. From the landing page, click AI Study Guide to download the PDF.
  2. Open your preferred AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.).
  3. Upload the PDF as a system instruction or reference document.
  4. Ask Bible study questions. The AI will follow the guiding principles — using Scripture to answer Scripture, identifying book/chapter/verse, and avoiding inserting human tradition or denominational assumptions.

16. Tips for Best Results

Stay Organized

  • Use Series folders. Group related lessons under a series name (e.g., "Acts Study", "Gospel of John") so you can filter by series in the dropdown.
  • Use consistent naming. "Lesson 1", "Lesson 2", etc. sort correctly. Avoid inconsistent formats like mixing "L.1" with "Lesson 1".

Protect Your Work

  • Back up regularly. Download a full vault backup at least weekly if you're actively studying.
  • Use Save Lesson for especially important individual lessons — share them or keep a copy on a flash drive.
  • Don't rely solely on localStorage. Browser data can be cleared accidentally. Backups are your safety net.

Get More from the Tool

  • Review PDF imports. After importing, open each lesson and check that questions were detected correctly. Edit titles or remove stray headers if needed.
  • Use Teacher Mode to prepare answer keys before a class, then switch to Student Mode when distributing.
  • Try KJV + Strong's for word studies. Clicking through Strong's numbers is one of the best ways to understand what the original text says.
  • Explore the Maps while reading travel narratives (Acts, Genesis, Exodus) to visualize where events happened.
  • Use the Scripture Index across all lessons to see which passages you've studied most — and which you haven't touched.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." — Psalm 119:105
