The vocabulary of standing before God
Hagios is the Greek word both for holiness and for the people who belong to a holy God — the saints. Charis is not earned favor; it is the unearned gift of God showing kindness where He has no obligation. Amen — borrowed straight from the Hebrew — is a verb of standing firm. Hosanna is the cry of a people who have waited too long: save now.
